HR Generalist – Client Services

Full-Time | Client-Facing Consulting Role | 3–5 Years’ Experience

Mostly Remote Work but expected to travel to communities as needed throughout the year

About JDK & Associates

JDK & Associates is a boutique consulting firm that works alongside Indigenous communities, governments, and organizations to support capacity building, governance, human resources, leadership development, policy, planning, and meaningful organizational change.

Our work is practical, relationship-based, and grounded in respect. We help clients strengthen the systems, structures, and people practices that allow their teams and communities to move forward with clarity, confidence, and care.

About the Role

We are looking for an HR Generalist who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, solving real workplace problems, and supporting leaders who may not have full internal HR capacity.

This is not a role where you sit on the sidelines and write recommendations no one uses. This is client-facing HR work where your support will help organizations hire, onboard, document, coach, clarify, and navigate the everyday people challenges that keep workplaces moving.

You will work with multiple client organizations, often in Indigenous community and organizational contexts, providing practical HR support on both an on-call and project basis. Some days may involve drafting a job posting or offer letter. Other days may involve supporting a manager through a difficult conversation, updating a policy, preparing performance documentation, or helping bring structure to an HR process that has grown informally over time.

The right person will bring sound HR judgment, strong writing skills, cultural humility, and the ability to balance professionalism with warmth.

What You’ll Do

  • Client HR Support

You will provide hands-on HR generalist support to assigned clients, helping managers and leadership teams respond to day-to-day HR needs with clarity and consistency. You will balance multiple client priorities, track your work accurately, and build trust through responsive, practical support.

  • Recruitment and Staffing

You will support the full recruitment process by drafting job postings, preparing interview questions and scoring tools, participating in interviews when needed, drafting offer letters and employment agreements, and supporting onboarding and probation processes.

  • Employee Relations

You will help managers address employee performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace concerns in a thoughtful and well-documented way. This may include drafting performance documentation, supporting disciplinary processes, preparing letters, and assisting with terminations or contract changes under the guidance of senior consultants.

  • Performance and Manager Support

You will support performance reviews, improvement plans, and manager coaching. A key part of the role is helping leaders prepare for conversations that are often avoided until they become bigger problems.

  • HR Documentation, Policies, and Process

You will draft and update job descriptions, letters, policies, HR summaries, and process documents. You will help ensure client documentation is clear, practical, legally aware, and aligned with the client’s operating context.

  • Consulting and Professional Practice

You will work as part of a consulting team, which means confidentiality, judgment, responsiveness, and accurate time tracking matter. You will be expected to work independently while knowing when to pause, ask questions, or escalate higher-risk matters to senior consultants.

What You Bring

You are likely a strong fit if you have:

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR generalist experience

  • You are a Canadian citizen

  • Experience supporting multiple managers, departments, or organizations

  • Solid working knowledge of Canadian employment standards, with the ability to adapt to different provincial or territorial contexts

  • Strong drafting skills for HR letters, job postings, employment agreements, summaries, and documentation

  • Confidence working directly with managers and leaders

  • Good judgment and the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion

  • Comfort managing multiple priorities and shifting client needs

  • A practical, grounded approach to HR — not overly rigid, but not casual with risk

  • Cultural humility and an interest in working respectfully with Indigenous communities and organizations

  • CPHR designation, or progress toward it, is an asset but not required

What Makes This Role Interesting

This role offers variety, learning, and meaningful client impact. You will see a wide range of organizations, workplace issues, leadership styles, and HR challenges. You will also work alongside experienced consultants who understand that good HR is not just about compliance — it is about helping people and organizations function better.

For someone who enjoys practical HR work, thoughtful problem-solving, and being part of work that supports stronger communities and organizations, this role offers a meaningful next step.

The Kind of Person Who Will Thrive Here

You will do well in this role if you are steady, curious, organized, and comfortable being helpful without needing to be the loudest person in the room.

You do not need to know everything. You do need to know how to listen carefully, write clearly, follow through, ask good questions, and treat confidential matters with the seriousness they deserve.

You should be comfortable with work that changes from day to day. Consulting requires flexibility, judgment, and the ability to move between details and bigger-picture context.

Why Join JDK & Associates

At JDK, your HR work will contribute to something broader than transactions and templates. You will help clients build capacity, strengthen teams, clarify expectations, and develop people practices that reflect both operational needs and community context.

You will be part of a firm that values respectful relationships, practical solutions, and work that is done with care.

Benefits:

  • Work from home

Language:

  • English (required)

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (required)
